It is intriguing that the two buildings named for Arthur Rubloff in the heart of Chicago are so similar. This one at the Art Institute of Chicago is a low, glass and black steel block with postmodern 1990's flavor accents like the other Rubloff building at Northwestern University. But this one incorporates considerably more concrete and the tactile sense helps make it more friendly to pedestrians. Apparently, though, it remains hostile to birds years after its construction. The windows still bear silhouettes of birds to discourage the real things from trying to fly into the reflected blue yonder.

Quick Facts
Notes
    > The building is named after legendary Chicago real estate developer, Arthur Rubloff, who donated millions to charity. In 1984, alone, he gave 130 bronze statues to the Art Institute of Chicago. Their value is estimated in the millions.
