Notes

  • † While this building is often referred to as being 113 stories tall, that number actually under counts the mechanical floors at the top of the building. There is additional confusion about the number of floors because in some diagrams, the lobby and retail area is shown as two floors. Our floor count is based on architectural diagrams submitted to the City of Chicago, which explicity show that the second floor is actually parking, and not retail and lobby space.
  • This location was formerly the Chicago Tribune employee parking lot.
  • The bulk of this building was placed on the north side of its parcel to preserve the view of the Tribune Tower from Ogden Slip. There is a Chicago city ordinance which requires developers to maintain a 100° view corridor from the slip to the building. It was further constrained by the inability to build over a sewer line running through the middle of the property.
  • Hotel and apartment levels have a floor-to-floor height of nine feet, nine inches. Condominium floors have a floor-to-floor height of 11 feet, six inches.
  • The developers paid the city $9,215,828 to avoid having any "affordable housing" residences in this building.

Timeline

August, 2016 The Tribune Tower was sold to CIM Group for $240,000,000, paving the way for the property's redevelopment, including the construction of this skyscraper.
2020 The City of Chicago approved the construction of this building.
